Phishing

phishing is a form of criminal activity using social engineering techniques.
It is characterized by attempts to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords,credit card and login details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business, in an apparently official email.

In other words, an email might look as if it came from your bank, paypal account, etc, but clicking on a link to confirm or verify details goes to another unrelated site.
After entering your details, you will usually be redirected to the offical site, completing the illusion........ but now they have your login details.

Any attempt to get you to verify account/login/password details should not be done via a link in your email.
Log into your account in the normal way, using a shortcut you created, or by visiting the homepage and logging in.
Any security issues affecting your account would normally be notified to you when you log in.

The following examples show phishing emails pretending to be from CommunityPC.

They could quite easily state that they are from your Bank, Building Society, Credit Card Account, PayPal etc.
