General Acronyms.
The following is a list of Acronyms you may come across in general Day-to-Day (Computer) use.
Included in the list are also a few items that are not strictly Acronyms, but it was felt that they should be included to cover those that are Abbreviations or commonly-accepted names. eg Bit stands for (B)inary dig(it), whereas an Acronym for Binary Digit would be 'BD'.
Though we don't want to start nit-picking, do we?
Following some of the explanatory text may be a word enclosed in brackets (). This is to give a slightly better idea of context of such Acronyms, eg. MS - Multi-Sync (Monitor).
In other cases it may give the normal use of the word, where lower-case is used instead of the normal Acronym upper-case eg. PInG - Packet Internet Groper (Ping).
There are a number of other occasions when you will find another word enclosed in brackets, but these are self-explanatory.
There are 1 or 2 items that have no definite meaning yet. These are denoted by a '?' and will be updated as soon as possible.
The listing only contains the definition of each Acronym, and no additional information.
This is not a 100% complete listing as yet, however, more will be added as they are received/found. Thanks to everyone who has/will contribute(d).
This listing just gives a definition of the Acronym itself, with no explanatory text. For a full definition (if available) please see the Glossary.
